PM, CM to be in Visakhapatnam on Jan. 8

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam district administration is busy making arrangements for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 8, when the PM will lay the foundation stone for the Green Hydrogen Hub of the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and a host of ministers, MPs and MLAs will be present at the Prime Minister’s programme.
Ahead of the PM’s programme, the AP Chief Minister will be in Visakhapatnam on January 4 to witness Operation Demonstration of the Eastern Naval Command.
The ₹84,700 crore Green Hydrogen Hub of NGEL will be coming up over an area of 1,200 acres at Pudimadaka in Atchutapuram mandal of Anakapalli district.
APGenco will collaborate in the project, which will position Andhra Pradesh as a “global leader” in clean energy production. Official sources said the project will create 25,000 jobs.
A key component of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub will generate 20 gigawatts of clean electricity. The facility will also produce 1,200 tonnes of green hydrogen daily. This will be converted into export-grade green ammonia and green methanol.
The hub aims to foster innovation, with provision for electrolyser and fuel cell manufacturing, incubation facilities for start-ups, and robust testing and production infrastructures to support ancillary industries within the clean energy ecosystem.
Sanctioned by the Union Cabinet in January 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production and export, aligning with international de-carbonisation efforts and supporting India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The Prime Minister will also address a public meeting at AU Engineering College grounds on January 8. The PM is also likely to lay the foundation stone for the South Coast Railway Zone during his visit.
