Polavaram: Foreign Experts to Discuss Issues with Stakeholder Agencies
Vijayawada: International experts have inspected various components of the Polavaram irrigation project in the last two days and would be interacting with other stakeholders of the project in the next two days before they come up with recommendations on how to set things right.
The experts, David Paul and Gian Franco Di Cicco from the US and Richard Donnelly and Sean Hinchberger from Canada inspected the coffer dams upstream and downstream to gauge their present conditions. This is in the context of seepage of water from them on Sunday, the first day of the team’s four-day visit.
On Monday, they inspected the earth-cum-rock-fill dam Gap-I and Gap-II, scoured portions, the vibro compaction works that were taken up for ground improvement etc.
Water resources authorities said the experts were inspecting the components and checking the reports and designs given on earlier occasions to check whether there were any issues of deviations or lapses.
In the next two days, the experts would discuss with stakeholder agencies like the Polavaram Project Authority, the Central Water Commission etc about their observations.
As the Polavaram project suffered damage to the components like diaphragm wall, cofferdams in the Godavari river, ECRF Gap-I and II, sinking of guide bund etc, both the Centre and the state government are focussing attention on all such issues by roping in the international experts.
