Police summon 3 more in illegal mining case
Among the three, Prabhakar Reddy turned up at the DSP’s office along with his advocate. He submitted a request in writing to give him time to appear before police for the enquiry.

NELLORE: In a new twist to the illegal mining case filed against YSRC senior leader and former legislator Kakani Govardhan Reddy, who is at large, police summoned noted contractor Vurubindi Prabhakar Reddy, his son Vurubindi Chaitanya and Kakani’s son-in-law Gopalakrishna Reddy to the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nellore Rural, for questioning on Monday.
Among the three, Prabhakar Reddy turned up at the DSP’s office along with his advocate. He submitted a request in writing to give him time to appear before police for the enquiry.
It may be recalled that Podalakur police registered a case on March 25, 2025, against former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy in connection with illegal quartz mining at Rustum Mines in Podalakur mandal of Nellore district.
Earlier, three individuals—Pernati Shyam Prasad Reddy, Vakati Shivareddy, and Vakati Srinivasulu Reddy—were booked in connection with the same case. They secured anticipatory bail from the High Court before their arrest.
Though Kakani promised police to appear before the Rural DSP for enquiry last Thursday, he failed to turn up. In this backdrop, police issued summons to Prabhakar Reddy, his son Chaitanya and Kakani’s son-in-law Gopalakrishna Reddy.
Sources in YSR Congress said that Prabhakar Reddy is a close associate of Kakani.
The main accused in the case Pernati Shyam Prasad Reddy has denied reports on social media about his arrest in the case on Monday. He expressed surprise over the false propaganda.
