Power Supply Restored in Most Flood-affected Areas: Special CS
VIJAYAWADA: Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand said staff of power utilities in Andhra Pradesh have restored normal power supply in most of the flood-affected areas in various areas of NTR and Krishna districts.
He underlined that the state energy department mobilised 1,800 electricity staff in teams along with the required material in the affected areas. APGENCO managing director K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, APTRANSCO joint MD Kirthi Chekuri, and DISCOM CMDs Pattanshetti Ravi Subhash, I. Prudhvi Tej and K. Santosha Rao are monitoring restoration activities at the field level.
Vijayanand said with consistent efforts, around 70,000 to 90,000 of services have been rectified and restored to normalcy. However, transformers in Ajith Singh Nagar, Raja Rajeswaripet and Vambay Colony are still in flood waters, with around 1.5 lakh electricity service connections down in Vijayawada.
“Efforts are being made to restore power supply in the remaining areas as soon as the water recedes,” the special chief secretary stated.
He pointed out that the NTTPS coal handling plant is inundated with flood water, causing disruption in feeding of coal to thermal power units. “Utilities have mobilised all resources for quick restoration of coal feeding, so that the various units could be brought back into service,” he said.
Vijayanand pointed out that APGENCO is generating 86 million units (MUs) of power, contributing up to 50 per cent of the state demand. He expressed confidence that all the units of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) will be restored by Friday. The special CS maintained that restoring uninterrupted power supply is the ultimate goal of the state government.
