Power utilities fully prepared for rain: APtransco

Vijayawada: Special chief secretary for energy and CMD of APtransco, K Vijayanand, has instructed AP power utilities to be fully prepared for the expected heavy rains. During a teleconference on Saturday, he directed the CMDs of Discoms to make arrangements in their districts and ensure readiness for any power infrastructure damage caused by the rains.

Vijayanand urged the public, residents, and farmers in affected districts to take necessary precautions. He emphasised the importance of having small generators and de-watering pumps on standby for emergencies. The official also advised proper switching of feeders to prevent electrocution-related accidents.
To address the situation, control rooms will be set up in rain-prone districts with nodal officers coordinating with field staff. Staff availability, including linemen, and the mobilisation of essential equipment, such as power saws, cranes, and generators, were highlighted as critical for efficient restoration efforts. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and minister for energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar prioritised public safety and power supply during the rains.
