Kurnool: Prakasam collector A. Thameem Ansaria has suspended Yerragondapalem tahsildar A. Bala Kishore over allegations of corruption and irregularities in land mutations.
According to sources, the tahsildar, despite being on leave, processed land mutations and issued a title deed for private property, including R&B vacant land, as private land. His suspension was based on a report submitted by the Markapuram sub-collector. Along with him, the VRO and village surveyor were also suspended.
The details were briefed by Visakhapatnam city police commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi during a press conference held on Tuesday. The commissioner stated that special teams were deployed to investigate 106 property offenses, solve 66 cases and arrest 74 individuals involved in various criminal activities.
He further said that the solved cases include 1 dacoity, 3 robberies, 13 house break-ins, 3 snatchings and multiple vehicle thefts.
The recovered items include 310.13 grams of gold, 536.6 grams of silver, and cash amounting to Rs 4,56,495. The police also retrieved several stolen vehicles, including seven motorcycles, one bus, one car, and two autorickshaws. Additionally, four laptops, two TVs, and ten truck batteries were recovered.
The commissioner emphasized that during January, 864 CCTV cameras were installed across the city, and 251 crime awareness meetings were conducted to educate the public about various types of crimes and the importance of surveillance systems.
He said the police have recovered 4,669 mobile phones worth approximately Rs 7 crores to date, with 300 phones recovered in January alone.
Special Raids to Enforce the Single Use Ban From March 1
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation officials said that the government would conduct special raids to enforce the single use ban from March 1. They further said that legal action, including hefty fines and the cancellation of trade licenses, would be imposed on those found using or selling single-use plastics.
In a proactive initiative to raise awareness about the ban on single-use plastics, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation convened a meeting with bulk waste generators, managers from farmers' markets, hospitals, and hotels on Tuesday at the VMC office.
The meeting, organized under the directives of VMC Commissioner HM Dhyanchandra, aimed to educate stakeholders about the harmful effects of single-use plastic waste on the environment. The Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr Suresh Babu highlighted that single-use plastics can take over 200 years to decompose, posing a significant threat to our ecosystems. He urged everyone to adopt environmentally-friendly alternatives in markets, farmers' bazaars, hospitals, and other relevant areas, emphasizing the need to make the community aware of environmentally sustainable materials.
The officials announced that comprehensive awareness programmes would be rolled out by the end of the month, emphasizing that from March 1, 2025, the government would conduct special raids to enforce the ban. The estate officers from the Ryrhu bazaars, market managers, hospital managers, assistant medical health officers, sanitary supervisors, and inspectors participated in the meeting rallying together in support of a cleaner and healthier environment for Vijayawada.
Anakapalli police collabs with social media influencers to combat social issues
The Anakapalli district police collabs with the local social media influencers to combat social issues. The district SP Tuhin Sinha held a meeting with the influencers on Tuesday and discussed several issues, including the prevention of illegal trafficking in Ganja, educating children on good and bad touch, raising awareness on women and children's safety, and combating cybercrimes.
The SP said that we must work together to influence youth through social media platforms in the right direction. He said the department aims to leverage the influencers' social media presence to disseminate awareness messages effectively throughout the district.
