Precautions Necessary To Ensure Satellites Reach Their Designated Orbits

VIJAYAWADA: Padma Shri Dr M.Y.S. Prasad, former director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, emphasised the necessity of critical precautions to ensure satellites reach their designated orbits.

Dr Prasad, who served as the director of the Chandrayaan-1 mission, has delivered a special lecture on “Satellite Launching” during the National Space Day celebrations at Vignan Foundation for Science, Technology and Research (VFSTR) at Guntur on Friday. Dr Prasad has shared his expertise with the students, detailing the procedures and methodologies followed in various PSLV and GSLV satellite launches.

He also discussed about the components used in satellites, their weights and specific objectives.

Dr Prasad also provided insights into the application of various engineering disciplines in space missions and informed students about the intricacies of space exploration. He covered topics such as the technical aspects of space missions, the operations of the International Space Station (ISS), the history of space stations, the activities of space station crews, environment control and life support systems on the ISS, the design and functioning of space suits, crew training on earth and the research conducted on the ISS.

The event was attended by Dr Lavu Rathaiah, chairman of Vignans educational institutions, vice-chancellor Professor P. Nagabhushan and Registrar Dr M.S. Raghunathan, along with deans, department heads, faculty and students.
