Preserve our Nature: Pawan Kalyan

Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan has said the World Wetlands Day celebrated on February 2 “is a time to recognize the invaluable role that wetlands play within our environment.”
Everyone, he said, must take proactive steps toward preserving our nature. “As one of the most critical ecosystems on our planet, wetlands, or "chittadi nelalu," is essential for maintaining ecological balance. They serve as natural water purification systems, carbon storage centres and remarkable areas that help channel rainwater into groundwater.”
Kalyan, who handles the department of environment, said over 25,000 wetlands exist in AP, with the Kolleru lake being one of the most prominent. Additionally, we have the second largest saltwater lake in the country, Pulicat Lake, which is vital for the marine ecosystem.
The DyCM highlighted that these wetlands not only support bird conservation and fisheries but also provide livelihoods for thousands of people through agriculture. “Efforts are underway to prevent encroachments and clearly define the geographical boundaries of these wetlands,” he added.
