Prez tells doctors to prioritise fame

President cites 3 factors for doctors to achieve success and respect

Vijayawada: President Droupadi Murmu has advised doctors to pay attention to three aspects to achieve success and respect -- service orientation, learning orientation and research orientation. “If you have to choose between fame and fortune, give priority to fame,” Murmu said at the first convocation of AIIMS, Mangalagiri, on Tuesday.

The President said the initial batch of any higher education institute stamped the identity of that institute. “As MBBS graduates of the first batch here, you are the first brand ambassadors of AIIMS Mangalagiri in the medical fraternity, the society, the country and abroad,” she said.

She told the doctors, “By choosing the medical profession, you have chosen the path of serving humanity.”

Indian doctors, she said, have got into leading positions in the world's developed countries, based on their talent and hard work. “People from other countries visit India to take advantage of the medical facilities available here. India is developing as a major centre of affordable medical tourism and doctors have a major role in this.”

The President said life and health are interconnected. “This approach focuses on holistic health. I am happy to note that the motto of the AIIMS Mangalagiri, Sakal Swasthya Sarvada, is inspired by the ideals of holistic healthcare and healthcare for all.”

She said a relentless promotion of holistic health and ensuring health for all should be the guiding principle of every medical professional at this institute.

The President said medical sciences face new challenges thrown up by the changing times and circumstances. “New solutions are required to face such challenges. The Cytogenetics Laboratory of AIIMS Mangalagiri is an effort in this direction. AIIMS will develop new research and treatments by using this laboratory,” she noted.

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, education minister Nara Lokesh, Union minister of state for health Prataprao Jadhav, AIIMS director and CEO Prof Madhabnanda Kar were among those present.
