PVTG Tribe Carries Patient in ‘Doli’ for 7 km

Visakhapatnam: Even 78 years after independence, the living condition of tribal communities has not seen much improvement. In the hilltop village of Kothuru Panchayat in ASR district, the Konda Dora tribe, a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG), comprising 50 individuals, continues to face challenging circumstances.

Kereogi Chinnammi, a member of Konda Dora tribe, could not visit the hospital despite suffering from leg and body swelling due to lack of road infrastructure. On Saturday, her husband, Ramesh, had to rally family members and friends to carry her in a 'doli' for 7 km to reach S. Kota Area Hospital.

Notably, the village is merely two kilometres from railway stations, yet the absence of proper road infrastructure hinders accessibility to the hospital, resulting in significant distress for residents.

Ramesh said, “Although government authorities have issued directives to address this kind of concern, effective implementation of these policies is lacking.”
