Ragging: School Expels 3 Class 10 Students, Hostel Warden Suspended

Visakhapatnam: In a swift move, a private school in Paderu has expelled three Class 10 girl students and suspended the hostel warden, Sravya, following an inquiry into a ragging incident.

The action was prompted by a video of the three students physically assaulting a Class 7 girl went viral on Sunday, leading to urgent intervention by district administration.

ASR district collector Dinesh Kumar directed DEO Brahmaji Rao to conduct a thorough investigation.

Based on the findings, mandal education officer Vishwaprasad confirmed that the incident occurred on January 5. Based on this, the school management was instructed to expel the three students and suspend the warden.

The widely circulated video shared on WhatsApp showed the Class 10 students harassing the girl within the hostel premises, raising concern about student safety.

A committee has been set up, including representatives from the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), the joint collector, the deputy director of tribal welfare, the mandal education officer and the child development project officer (CDPO), to assess the school’s operations and verify the hostel’s permissions.

The education department was also asked to keep ready Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hostel management and anti-ragging protocols for all residential educational institutions. The district administration emphasized that the school management would be held responsible for any similar incidents in future.
