TIRUPATI: Sudden rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds lashed Tirupati on Tuesday afternoon, bringing relief from the summer heat but also disrupting life in several parts of the city.
The weather changed suddenly in the afternoon with the appearance of dark clouds over the city, followed by heavy rain amid strong winds. On the West Church road, a large tree branch fell on a moving auto-rickshaw, causing injuries to the auto driver and a woman passenger. Locals shifted the two to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Strong winds uprooted trees and brought down branches and hoardings at several places in the city, thereby disrupting traffic and causing jams in several areas.
Tirumala also received rainfall in the afternoon after experiencing hot and humid conditions till noon. The showers brought down the temperature and provided relief to devotees waiting in queues and moving around the temple town.
