Rain, thunderstorm alert for Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam: Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected on Friday in Rayalaseema, while coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience similar conditions at isolated locations, the weather bureau has said.
A thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, with heavy rainfall expected in districts such as SPSR Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya and Chittoor.
IMD said, “A well-marked low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwest towards south Tamil Nadu, gradually weakening into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.”
This system, which has shifted from the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka, is associated with an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric levels.
IMD has issued warnings for several regions due to anticipated weather changes.
In addition to rain forecasts, ocean current alerts have been issued for various coastal areas. The Srikakulam coast is reporting current speeds of 1.1-1.2 m/sec, while the Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram coasts are experiencing speeds of 1.0-1.1 m/sec.
The SPSR Nellore Coast is seeing a higher current speed of 1.5 m/sec. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution during harbour and marine operations due to these conditions.
