Visakhapatnam: Coastal Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, with Vizianagaram district reporting the highest precipitation of 84.6 mm. The India Meteorological Department has issued a detailed weather advisory for the region, forecasting continued inclement weather for the next five days.
IMD's advisory warns residents of north coastal AP, Yanam, south coastal AP and Rayalaseema of heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds. A cyclonic circulation over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal was influencing weather patterns, leading to the current weather conditions, IMD said.
On June 26, heavy rain is forecast for isolated areas in north coastal AP and Yanam, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across these regions as also Rayalaseema. “Gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h are expected in NCAP, Yanam and SCAP, while Rayalaseema may see winds of 30–40 km/h. Similar conditions are predicted to persist on June 27, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds continuing across the same regions,” the weather bulletin said.
On June 28, isolated heavy rain is expected in NCAP and Yanam, along with thunderstorms and lightning in NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema. Gusty winds of 40–50 km/h are forecast for NCAP, Yanam and SCAP, while Rayalaseema may experience winds of 30–40 km/h.
Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in isolated areas across NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema on June 29 and 30, accompanied by strong winds ranging from 30–40 km/h.
Some of the districts that recorded significant rainfall included Srikakulam (59.6 mm), Palasa (22.2 mm), Tekkali (5.8 mm), Pathapatnam (2.4 mm), Anakapalli (55 mm), Yelamanchili (22.4 mm), Anakapalle (13.6 mm), Chodavaram (3.2 mm) and Parvathipuram Manyam (48.8 mm).
