Rain Lashes Many Parts of Ap, Mercury Down Manyam Records 7.7cm, Vizag 5cm

Visakhapatnam: Rain lashed many parts of Andhra Pradesh, mainly Visakhapatnam, on Thursday. Normal life was affected here from the morning till afternoon, causing trouble to office-goers and school children. The rain resumed in the evening.

Parvathipuram Manyam received the highest rainfall of 7.7cm and Visakhapatnam City 5cm. The

low-lying areas of One Town, MVP Colony, Poorna Market, Velampeta and parts of the beach road were inundated with stormwater, affecting vehicular movement.

IMD Amaravati said in its daily bulletin that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may continue in some parts of the coastal AP and Rayalaseema districts for a few days. Strong surface winds with speed reaching 30-40kmph are also likely at isolated places over coastal AP and Rayalaseema till Sept 29.

The rains brought down day temperature by four degrees. Tuni recorded a maximum of 28.6 degrees Celsius with a departure of 4.9 C. Visakhapatnam recorded 28.2C with a departure of 3.9 degrees.

IMD said lower tropospheric south-westerly/ westerly winds prevailed over AP and Yanam. The southwest monsoon was normal over CAP, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

Sullurpeta in Tirupati district recorded 5cm, followed by 4cm in Srisailam (Nandyal), 3cm rainfall each in Tenali (Guntur), Avanigadda (Krishna), Vizag, Palasamudram (Chittoor) and Nandikotkur (Nandyal).

The locals in Alluri Sitarama Raju district said parts of the district have been experiencing cool weather with fog-like conditions at Lammasingi, Vanjangi, Minumuluru and a few other parts of the district during the morning hours.
