Relief Efforts for Flood-Affected Families Intensified: Home Minister Anita
Vijayawada: Home and disaster management minister Vangalapudi Anita asserted that state government is carrying out intensive relief operations in the flood-affected areas for the past eight days. “The activities undertaken by the state government are visible worldwide,” Anita told media here on Sunday. She underlined that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu himself has remained stationed at the collectorate, ensuring that aid reaches everyone.
The home minister maintained that the CM is holding regular review meetings with officials of all departments and ironing out any issues.
“No other Chief Minister has toured flood-affected areas as extensively as Naidu,” she declared.
She disclosed that on CM's orders, special measures have been taken to provide three meals a day to all Budameru flood-affected families. Over 3 lakh food packets, milk and biscuit packets have been distributed. More than 5 lakh kg of vegetables have been sold at concessional rates through 163 stores to the flood victims.
Regarding water supply, Anita said 236 tankers are operating round-the-clock to ensure water supply. On Saturday they made 2,090 trips. She pointed out that rations have been distributed to more than 60,000 people during the past three days.
The minister emphasised that houses are being cleaned on a war footing using fire engines. Over 20,000 houses have been cleaned so far. Chlorination is being carried out with the help of 42 drones.
Anita accused YSR Congress president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of sitting in Bangalore and criticising the state government. She observed that Jagan visited flood-affected areas for only one day, that too only for 20 minutes. She described as baseless allegations of Jagan and other YSRC leaders with regard to flood-relief activities.
The home minister said the process of assessing damage due to floods in Budameru will begin tomorrow. She appreciated minister Nimmala Ramanaidu for continuously reviewing the situation near Budameru for three days without rest and filling three breaches, thereby protecting Vijayawada city.
