Restore Cancelled Trains: CPM (Representational Images)
Visakhapatnam: The members of Anakapalli district committee of CPM staged a dharna at Anakapalli Railway station to immediately restore the trains going from Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada and provide travel facilities to common people.
CPM Anakapalli district secretary K. Lokanatham said thousands of poor and middle-class students, employees, small traders, and migrant workers travel every day. Due to the cancellation of the railway services available to them, they will have to face severe financial burdens as well as being unable to reach their destinations.
He also objected to the central government taking away travel facilities of the common man by reducing the number of sleeper coaches and increasing the number of AC coaches. Passenger trains from Visakha to Vijayawada along with Simhadri, Ratnachal, Udai, Machilipatnam, and Guntur-Rayagada Express are frequently canceled in the name of modernization. Poor and middle-class people choose railways for their journeys as the fares on railways are very low compared to other means of transport. Due to the cancellation of such trains, more than 10,000 passengers per day will face many problems.
