Rights’ Member Wants Central Prison Rehab Facilities Strengthened

Child rights panel reviews welfare, education and healthcare for inmates’ children.

Anantapur: Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) member Dr D. Sreenivasa Murthy on Friday visited the Central Prison in Kadapa and inspected the facilities being provided to children of women inmates there.

Dr Murthy inspected the various facilities available to children, including nutrition, healthcare services, education and recreational activities. He interacted with prison authorities and discussed various aspects related to welfare and protection of children’s rights within the prison environment.

Speaking on the occasion, the child rights commission member underlined that every institution bears the responsibility of ensuring the rights of children with regard to their health, education and future well-being, including those living with their incarcerated mothers. He stressed that such children must particularly receive special attention for their overall development and protection.

Dr Murthy assessed the welfare initiatives being implemented in the prison. He reviewed sanitation and security arrangements. He expressed satisfaction with the facilities and services being provided to inmates and children residing in the prison.

The child rights’ commission member further advised prison officials to strengthen rehabilitation efforts for inmates and work towards their dignified reintegration into society after release. He underscored the importance of comprehensive welfare measures that support both inmates and their children, enabling them to lead productive lives in the future.
