An attempted robbery on the Circar Express was foiled early Monday morning between the Appikatla and Bapatla railway stations in Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh.

Bapatla: A robbery attempt on the Circar Express was foiled early Monday between Appikatla and Bapatla stations in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district.

Indian Railway Protection Force (RPF) DSC Akkeswara Rao said the robbers boarded the Chengalpattu–Kakinada train around 1:00 AM near the Nallamada Vagu railway bridge on the outskirts of Bapatla and targeted female passengers sleeping in coaches 3 and 6, attempting to snatch gold and valuables from them.

Alarmed, passengers raised a commotion and alerted railway police. Someone pulled the emergency chain, bringing the train to a halt. The robbers then jumped off and fled into nearby fields under cover of darkness. During the pursuit, railway police fired nine rounds at the suspects, but they managed to escape through the fields toward the Bapatla-Guntur road. Two bags belonging to the miscreants were later recovered. No injuries were reported, though passengers were left shaken by the incident.

The railway police have registered a case and launched a search with the local police. Special teams are examining CCTV footage and recording passenger statements. Five teams have reportedly been deployed to track down the miscreants. Bapatla District SP Uma Maheswara Rao has alerted rural police teams, and a massive manhunt is underway in Appikatla and Bathipudi fields to trace the thieves.
