Hyderabad: In a significant achievement, a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Crime Investigation Branch (CIB) cracked a high-value theft case at Vijayawada railway station. The team recovered a stolen bag containing Rs.64 lakh during the operation.
According to the registered complaint, on January 24, 2025, two aides of Pintu Kumar Jain were traveling from Rajahmundry to Chennai on Train No. 20896 in the B2 coach. They were carrying a bag filled with Rs.64 lakh in cash to purchase gold ornaments for business.
Upon reaching Vijayawada, they realized the bag was missing and promptly reported the theft.
The RPF team, led by Valleswara B Thokkala, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, along with the CIB and GRP teams, swiftly launched an investigation. Using CCTV footage, the team identified three suspects stealing the bag and fleeing from Vijayawada station.
The investigators meticulously tracked the suspects’ movements before and after the crime, ultimately tracing them to Rajahmundry.
In a major breakthrough, on January 29, 2025, the joint team apprehended the accused - Akula Sai Kumar, Pendem Prasana Kumar, and Valluri Mahesh Kumar - at the circulating area of Vijayawada Railway Station.
The Government Railway Police arrested the suspects and seized the stolen cash. The accused were later sent to judicial remand.
