Kakinada: The state government has accorded permission to keep the hotels open till 12 in midnight. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, addressing the executive committee meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Hotels Association in Kakinada, said that the guidelines for the operation of hotels would be released soon.

He said that the tourism sector would be developed as an industry. As part of it, hotels would be given discount on power and various other areas.

Several investors have come forward to invest over Rs 1,217 crore in the hospitality sector on eight projects and MoUs relating to the new projects had already been signed, he said.

These projects will provide employment to nearly 2,567 people.

A cruise hub would be established with Vizag as the Centre. Vizag will emerge as an entertainment and tourism hub.

Criticising the previous government, he said that the TD coalition government would not build palatial buildings for personal interests. He said that the government was losing revenue after the resorts at Rushikonda were demolished to give space to a palace, which is now lying vacant.

If tourism industry has to flourish, the hotel industry has to be promoted, he said, adding that the government was ready to resolve the issues of the managements of hotels.
