Rs 50 crore reservoir to solve water crisis in NTR district
Vijayawada: NTR district collector Dr G. Srijana said the state government is constructing a drinking water reservoir at the cost of Rs 50 crore to provide protected Krishna river water to the residents of A Konduru, Gampalagudem, Reddigudem and neighbouring mandals in the Tiruvuru constituency. She said the reservoir will help address the problem of kidney diseases in this region.
On Wednesday, Srijana inspected the ongoing construction of the drinking water reservoir in Kudapa village, Reddigudem Mandal, and directed the officials to expedite the work to complete the reservoir by March 2025. Speaking to media persons in A Konduru, Srijana said that, for over a decade, the residents of A Konduru and neighbouring mandals have been suffering due to the unavailability of potable water, as the groundwater in the region contains metallic elements and created the problem of kidney diseases.
“The reservoir would supply piped water to around 38 villages in A Konduru mandal by March 2025. Until then, drinking water will be supplied to these village through 56 temporary tanks. The groundwater samples in Reddigudem, Gampalagudem and Tiruvuru mandals will be tested and steps will be taken to supply drinking water to the villages in those mandals too,” the collector informed.
On this occasion, rural water supply and sanitation department senior engineer D.V. Ramana explained to the collector that the laying of the 30 km pipeline was completed and the work for another 70 km pipeline is in the final stage out of the 200 km stretch needed to supply water to the 38 villages.
