Rs 500 crore boost for Visakhapatnam Railway Station
Visakhapatnam: Railway Standing Committee Chairman and Anakapalli MP CM Ramesh conducted an inspection of the Anakapalli Railway Station on Sunday, announcing plans for modernization and passenger-centric improvements as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Viksit Bharat initiative.
During his media interaction following the inspection, he outlined development plans that align with the national goal of transforming railway stations to airport-like standards. "We are undertaking a major upgrade of railway infrastructure in the region, including a Rs 500 crore modernization project at Visakhapatnam railway station," stated Ramesh.
The chairman emphasized that Anakapalli station's renovation would focus on creating a hassle-free environment for all passengers, with special attention to women, differently-abled individuals, and children. The planned improvements include station expansion, enhanced facilities, and development of a second entrance alongside the existing main entrance.
The key announcements included the installation of CCTV cameras to combat anti-social activities, establishment of mineral water plants across all stations in the Anakapalli parliamentary constituency using MP funds, immediate reopening of the foot over bridge used by local farmers and implementation of strict passenger-only access protocols.
Addressing local concerns, he assured that the parcel office at Anakapalli station would continue operations as usual, following discussions with the General Manager. He also addressed the long-standing flyover bridge issue, announcing that Rs 7.5 crore in composition funds would be deposited with the collector to expedite its completion.
"All development works at the station will be completed within six months," he promised, adding that a review meeting with authorities would be held within two days to finalize the implementation timeline. He also emphasized that the modernization initiative would extend to all railway stations in the Anakapalli district as part of the first phase of the nationwide railway station development program.
