Satya Calls for Efforts to Make AP Healthy State

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav called on the medical fraternity to initiate all necessary measures to ensure the health and well-being of the people, with the goal of achieving a healthy, wealthy, and happy Andhra Pradesh.

In an open letter addressed to doctors, supporting medical staff, and the management of both government and private hospitals on New Year’s Day, the minister emphasised the need for a reorientation of attitudes within the medical community. He urged them to adopt a sense of sympathy, empathy, compassion, and commitment toward patients to provide quality healthcare. The minister also highlighted the importance of responsibility and accountability within the medical fraternity to elevate healthcare standards and achieve the desired positive outcomes.

The minister expressed his belief that addressing an open letter to the medical community was an appropriate step to address deficiencies in healthcare services. He encouraged drawing inspiration from a humane approach to meet these challenges and achieve the envisioned goals.

Referring to the release of the ‘Swarna Andhra Pradesh Vision Document-2047’ by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which prioritises public health as a foundation for a healthy, wealthy, and happy state, the minister urged the medical community to make concerted efforts to realise this vision.

Citing feedback from patients, the public, and representatives regarding government hospitals, the minister pointed out concerns about the attitude of doctors and medical staff, including delays in attending to patients, non-availability of doctors during duty hours, and senior doctors and specialists neglecting outpatient (OP) and inpatient (IP) services.

He also noted issues such as the non-functioning of diagnostic equipment, referrals to private diagnostic centers, shortages of drugs and surgical supplies, and poor cleanliness in hospital premises. The minister called for immediate action to address these deficiencies, particularly given the rising number of registrations in OP and IP wards across the state.
