Satya Kumar wants action plan to fill 8,000 health vacancies

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav has asked top officials to prepare an action plan to soon fill 7,000–8,000 posts lying vacant in the state health department.

Holding a review meeting with senior health officials here on Friday, he advised health personnel to give up slackness and work with accountability for providing quality healthcare services to people of the state.
The minister asked officials to file monthly reports on implementation of the several schemes that the state government is implementing for the benefit of people.
Satya Kumar said out of the sanctioned strength of 1.01 lakh posts in the health department, 26,263 posts are vacant in various categories. The shortage of manpower is thus 25.97 per cent, he pointed out

The minister criticised the previous YSR Congress government for being boastful in claiming that it had adopted a “zero vacancy policy” in the medical and health department.
Refuting this, he pointed out that 37.04 per cent vacancies are in teaching hospitals, 28.96 per cent in primary health centres, 14.51 per cent in district hospitals and whopping 63.40 per cent vacancies are in homeopathy, Ayurveda and Unani services.
Referring to the high rise in cases of high blood sugar, blood pressure, cancer and non-communicable diseases due to lifestyle habits and other reasons, Satya Prasad called for an effective awareness programme regarding these ailments, so that people can take measures to avoid them.
