SC postpones Jagan assets case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking the cancellation of bail granted to YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in an assets case.
After considering arguments from both sides, the division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Pankaj Mittal adjourned the matter for further hearing on January 10.
The petition filed by former MP and current MLA Raghurama Krishnam Raju, had alleged that Jagan Reddy had been influencing witnesses in the assets case and violating bail conditions. The petitioner urged the court to revoke Jagan Reddy’s bail to ensure a fair trial.
The CBI and ED have filed affidavits in the Supreme Court on the delay in the investigation of the cases. The bench said that it would give a verdict after examining reports from the CBI and ED.
The CBI reportedly included several new points related to the case in its affidavit. The CBI noted that 11 disproportionate assets cases were pending against Jagan Reddy and not a single one of the 86 discharge petitions has been decided so far.
In the affidavit, it was mentioned that the CBI and ED have filed charge sheets against a total of 120 accused. So far, the court has examined 860 witnesses. The final verdict has not been issued in any of the discharge petitions.
