Serial Bike Thief Caught Trying to Flee Checkpoint in NTR District
Vijayawada: In a joint operation, the Central Crime Station (CCS) and Patamata police arrested a habitual offender involved in multiple bike theft cases and seized three stolen motorbikes worth nearly Rs 1.5 lakh from his possession on Friday. The arrested individual has been identified as Tammisetty Venkatesh, 24, a resident of Madala village in Muppalla mandal, Palnadu district.
Following the directions of NTR district commissioner of police (CP) S.V. Raja Sekhara Babu, special police teams led by CCS Inspector M. Ram Kumar and Patamata CI V. Pavan Kishore, under the supervision of ACP central D. Damodara Rao, and on the instructions of DCP crime K Tirumaleswara Reddy and ADCP crime M Raja Rao, heightened vigilance against bike thefts in the city.
Acting on credible information, the CCS and Patamata police conducted vehicle checks at 10 am on Friday at the Auto Nagar check post, where a motorbike rider attempted to escape upon spotting the police. The personnel intercepted the rider and, upon interrogation, identified him as Venkatesh, accused in five motorbike theft cases registered in NTR and Guntur districts.
The police said that the accused, who was addicted to vices, had stolen three bikes under Patamata police station limits over the past few months.
