Kakinada:The shandy market in villages and agency areas are bustling with prize cocks as the Sankranti festival approaches. Many people are flocking to these markets to purchase cocks, which they rear at home until the festival. During the third day of the festival, known as Kanuma, these prize cocks are celebrated, often raised on nutritious food.
These cocks are also used for cockfights, particularly for second-grade betting in semi-urban areas. On Monday, numerous prize cocks were displayed at the sandy market in Gokavaram, with prices ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000. Buyers noted that the cocks are used both for cockfights and for cooking. Transactions at the markets are progressing briskly.
However, the main prize cocks are usually sold directly by breeders in their local areas. Many regions, including Konaseema, Gokavaram, Rajamahendravaram Rural, Bhimavaram, Mandapeta, and others, are known for rearing prize cocks with a focus on providing them with nutritious diets.
