Kurnool: The Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavam had a traditional beginning on Wednesday at Srisailam, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country.
The rituals started at 9 am as temple priests and Vedic scholars entered the Yagashala. The Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple was beautifully decorated for the occasion.
The Brahmotsavam includes an 11-day Navahnika Deeksha which will continue until March 1. The event began with various holy rituals such as Veda Swasti, Siva Sankalpam, Ganapati Punyahavachanam, Chandeeswara Puja, Kankana Dharanam, and Rudra Kalasha Sthapana.
The Sivadeeksha Jyotirmudi Samarpanam will continue until March 5 to accommodate devotees. Those who followed the Shiva Mandala Jyotirmudi Deeksha on January 19 and the Arthamandala Deeksha on February 8 are now completing their Deeksha.
On Wednesday, devotees performed special rituals at Manohara Gundam as part of the Deeksha Viramana, including a Rathotsavam with Vedic chants and traditional Mangala Vadyam. Special pujas for Swamy and Ammavaru will continue until March 5 here, when all devotees complete their Deeksha Viramana.
For the convenience of devotees observing Shiva Deeksha, special queues have been set up from Chandravathi Kalyana Mandapam to Turpu Mada Street, ensuring smooth darshan according to temple guidelines. The temple flag was hoisted on the Pradhana Dhwaja Sthambham on Wednesday evening, symbolically inviting all deities to the Brahmotsavam, marking the traditional commencement of the festivities.
Meanwhile, Nandyal in-charge SP Vikrant Patil inspected security arrangements for the 11-day event, checking queue lines, temple surroundings, laddu counters, bathing ghats, and other key locations. He instructed officials to deploy armed personnel to ensure safety and comfort of devotees visiting Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Ammavaru.
