Six AP MLAs to Star in Jagjivan Ram Biopic
Vijayawada: In an exciting crossover between politics and cinema, six members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will showcase their acting skills in a biopic on Babu Jagjivan Ram. Film director Dilip Raj announced the venture at a press conference at the MAA-AP office in Tenali on Wednesday, revealing that Dr Chandolu Nagamalleswara Rao, currently practising in Jamaica, is producing the film titled Jagjivan Ram. Filming is set to commence on November 9 in Tenali.
The film will depict significant scenes from India’s freedom movement, including Jagjivan Ram’s two imprisonments by the British. Dilip Raj detailed the cast, highlighting Prathipadu MLA B Ramanjaneyulu, who will portray Bhagat Singh, and Parvathipuram MLA Vijay Chandra, who will take on the role of Chandrasekhar Azad. Additionally, Chintalapudi MLA S Roshan Kumar will play the British Governor-General, with MLAs Varla Kumar Raja, Dastagiri, and Jayasurya in supporting roles.
Dilip Raj noted that recreating authentic events from over a century ago requires substantial time and budget. Military Prasad will assume the titular role of Jagjivan Ram, while senior actress Talluri Rameshwari will portray former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. The supporting cast includes Kannada actors Markali, Jeeva, Narasimha Raju, Annapurna, Kavya Keerthi, Divija, Padmini, Rajya, Errababu, Bhanu, and Haribabu.
Produced under the Pedaravuru Film Studio banner by NRIs including Dr Nagamalleswara Rao, the film is coordinated by Kaleeb Raju. Dilip Raj has undertaken the story, lyrics, screenplay, and direction. After post-production, the biopic is expected to release worldwide in 2025 in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, as per unit controller Pradeep Donepudi.
