Social Media Influencer Held for Promoting Betting Apps

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam cyber crime police arrested a social media influencer following a complaint from a victim who suffered substantial financial losses and mental distress after investing money through betting apps.
The accused has been identified as “Local Boy Nani” (Vasupalli Nani) from Visakhapatnam, who allegedly promoted illegal betting applications through various social media platforms. The victim lost money after participating in betting through applications.
According to a press release from the Visakhapatnam police, the investigation revealed that the accused targeted young people with misleading content about betting opportunities. He created and shared videos on social media platforms, promising high returns from small investments.
City police commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi issued a warning against social media influencers promoting betting activities and emphasised that legal action will be taken against those involved in such scams. The police have also established a dedicated helpline (7995095799) for citizens to report scams and individuals promoting betting apps.
