SP R. Gangadhar Rao Forms Peace Panel in Pedana With Religious Leaders
Vijayawada: A peace committee was formed by Krishna SP R. Gangadhar Rao on Wednesday involving religious leaders from Hindu and Muslim communities, to maintain harmony in Pedana town. On September 15, a clash erupted between the two religious groups over installing a flag pole at the Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple on the premises of Pedana bus station. Following the violence, the police held a discussion with the religious leaders, where they ensured that such incidents would not take place in the future.
The religious leaders promised that they would take measures to install flag poles only during the festivals of their respective communities and remove them immediately after the festivals were over. They also assured that the religious flags would not be hoisted in contentious areas and in case if anyone dares to incite communal tensions, their details would be shared with the police in advance.
Those who were involved in the September 15 violence were summoned before the peace committee, counseled by the police, and warned not to indulge in such activities again. The religious leaders also promised that they would support any action initiated against those responsible for future incidents.
