Srikakulam residents unite to clean Nagavali river

Visakhapatnam: A large-scale cleaning programme was undertaken on the banks of Hayati city on Sunday. The initiative, led by the Srikakulam Municipal Corporation, saw a large turnout of municipal sanitation workers and representatives from various voluntary organisations to protect and preserve the Nagavali river.

Health officer of Srikakulam Municipal Corporation, Venkata Rao, emphasised upon the importance of protecting rivers, citing the ancient Indian tradition of revering rivers as deities. He praised the youths who took the initiative to safeguard the river, which is a primary source of water for the people of Srikakulam city.

The cleaning programme was part of the ‘Swachh Nagavali’ initiative, aimed at establishing a clean and beautiful Srikakulam. Dr Venkata Rao highlighted the crucial role rivers play in providing drinking water to the people, farmers and animals. He stressed that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure the river remains pollution-free, urging residents to refrain from throwing garbage and other waste materials into the river.

Instead, he suggested that people should either give waste materials to sanitation workers who visit their homes or dispose them of in garbage bins set up on the streets. The municipal health officer appealed to the people of Srikakulam to cooperate in making their city a beautiful and clean place.
