Visakhapatnam: The famous Shiva temples of Srimukhalingam and Matsyagundam in northern Andhra Pradesh are bustling with activity in the run-up to the grand Maha Shivaratri Jatara.

District authorities are making arrangements to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for the large number of devotees who flock to the temples.
Maha Shivaratri, one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm throughout North Andhra. The Srimukhalingam temple is renowned for its architectural splendour, while Matsyagundam, which holds deep spiritual significance, attracts thousands of devotees during this occasion.
ASR sub-collector Shauryaman Patel, speaking at a meeting with members of the festival committee, said devotees should not face any inconvenience during the Shivaratri Jatara on February 25, 26 and 27 at Matsyagundam.
SP KV Maheshwara Reddy inspected the arrangements for the Srimukhalingam Swamy Shivaratri Mahotsava, which will occur from February 25. He advised the temple staff to make proper arrangements for the devotees during the three-day festival to avoid hassles.
For the authorities, the primary focus is on crowd management, safety, and sanitation. Temporary shelters, additional lighting and drinking water facilities are being arranged to meet the pilgrims' needs. Medical teams and emergency services will be on standby.
Special rituals and cultural programmes are being organised for the occasion. The temples will recite sacred texts and conduct other devotional activities, while the devotees can participate in the midnight abhishekam.
Local authorities and the police would ensure strict security. Surveillance cameras will be installed and additional personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order. Traffic arrangements are also being made to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles around the temple premises.
The local community is actively engaged in the preparations. From guiding pilgrims to maintaining cleanliness, their contributions as volunteers are vital for the success of the Maha Shivaratri Jatara.
