Srisailam Reservoir Receives Massive Inflows
Kurnool: The Srisailam reservoir continues to be flooded with 5,28,673 cusecs of water flowing into the reservoir from upstream areas amid heavy rains.
To manage the situation, 5,54,995 cusecs of floodwater are being released through the spillway by lifting 10 radial gates to a height of 20 feet. Additionally, 68,063 cusecs are being released to Nagarjuna Sagar for power generation at the Srisailam right and left hydropower stations.
As of 3pm on Monday, water level at the Srisailam reservoir stood at 885 feet, with a total storage of 215tmc.
A landslide occurred near Chintala on the Peddadornala-Srisailam Nallamala Road in Prakasas district on Sunday, causing stones to fall onto the road and temporarily halting traffic. Highway Mobile Police, with the assistance of a JCB, cleared the stones and tree branches and restored traffic.
Nandyal collector Raja Kumari said heavy rains over the past two days led to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Srisailam and Nandikotkur constituencies, particularly in the Nallamalla forest region. Officials have been instructed to continuously release water to prevent accumulation.
She said assessment of losses to rain-damaged crop fields, horticulture, and cattle would be done. Preliminary reports would be submitted immediately. There are 27,203 soil mites in the district, she said, and asked panchayat authorities to submit a report on the damage to houses.
The collector warned that action will be taken against welfare hostels not providing food items to inmates as per the prescribed menu for 142 hostels in the district.
