AP: State eyes unused land in Mannavaram for new industrial projects

In a bid to boost industrial development, the state government is planning to reclaim approximately 600 acres of unused land allocated to NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Ltd (NBPPL) at Mannavaram in Srikalahasti mandal of Tirupati district.

The reclaimed land will be repurposed for new industries.

During a virtual review meeting held on Monday, industries secretary N Yuvraj discussed matters with APIIC managing director Abhishikth Kishore, Tirupati district collector Venkateswar and NBPPL representatives. The discussion focused on the large tract of land allocated to NBPPL in 2009 for a power equipment manufacturing facility, but much of this land remains unutilised.

Yuvraj proposed that the NBPPL return the unused land to the state government, so as to enable new industrial units to use it and drive economic activity. He cited the strategic importance of the land and its potential to attract investments and generate employment in the region.

NBPPL officials said a decision on this can be taken only by the Union power ministry. The industries secretary directed the APIIC MD to prepare a proposal for submission to the power ministry for reclaiming the land.
