State MPs to raise pending Split issues, Polavaram in Parliament
Vijayawada: MPs from the ruling parties in Andhra Pradesh would raise the issues of unfulfilled provisions in AP Split Act, the delay in execution of the Polavaram project, the Kadapa Steel Plant issue etc in the Winter Session of Parliament.
An all-party meeting was chaired by the Union parliamentary affairs minister in the Parliament Annex in New Delhi on Sunday, a day before the session's start.
Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, briefed the media after the meeting. He said the MPs from AP would raise several pending issues of the state in the winter session.
Devarayalu expressed his sadness over AP’s image getting affected due to charges that the previous YSR Congress government had involved itself in corrupt practices and entered into a deal for power sale with the Solar Energy Corporation of India.
“We would take up issues like floods affecting the parts of Vijayawada and the impact of natural calamities in the cities and towns in AP, and press for interlinking of Godavari and Penna to bring 10 lakh acre into cultivation and address problems of the tenant farmers, migrant labourers etc,” he said.
Devarayalu backed the bill on Wakf, but said the government should keep in mind the interests of the Muslims.
Jana Sena floor leader in the Lok Sabha, Vallabhaneni Balashowry, said “We attended the all-party meeting and sought urgent resolution of the AP Split issues in an expeditious manner. We stress that the Centre should bear the whole cost for execution of the Polavaram project and settle the issue of relief and resettlement of the project affected families in two years.”
On behalf of the YSR Congress, its Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy and Lok Sabha MP Mithun Reddy attended the all-party meeting.
Mithun Reddy said, “We discussed several issues of AP at the meeting and called for a discussion on Polavaram project as state ministers are giving differing statements on the height of the dam. We are opposing any move to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.”
He called for strict laws to curb the drug menace and alleged that non-bailable cases were being booked on some social media activists and they were being subjected to harassment. “We would raise this issue in the Parliament.”
The MP claimed that there was no agreement between the YSRC government and Adani on solar power and that the agreement was signed by the state with the SECI. Several other states too entered into such agreements with SECI, he said.
