Steel Plant unions want PM to announce SAIL merger

Visakhapatnam: The steel plant unions, led by the Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee, are planning agitational programmes to draw the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Visakhapatnam on 8 January. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate a series of industrial projects and lay the foundation stone for the railway zone.

Senior trade union leader Varasala Srinivasa Rao stated that the unions demand the Prime Minister announce the merger of RINL (Vizag Steel Plant) with SAIL and allocate captive mines for the plant—an issue that has been pending for a long time.
On Monday, a labour bike rally will commence from Kurmannapalem Tent near the steel plant at 8:30 a.m. to submit a memorandum to the Visakhapatnam Collector, highlighting pending salaries and other unresolved issues.
On Tuesday, union leaders will stage a dharna from 8 a.m. at Kurmannapalem Tent, reiterating their demand for RINL’s merger with SAIL. On Wednesday, coinciding with the Prime Minister's visit, all union leaders will begin a 24-hour hunger strike, Srinivasa Rao added.
