Snapping power lines and damaging roadside shops

Nellore: A sudden thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds tore through parts of Markapuram district on Tuesday, killing two women, uprooting trees, snapping power lines and damaging roadside shops.

In a tragic incident at Bodapadu village, a woman identified as Onteru Pullamma died after being struck by lightning while working in the fields. In another incident in the same village, Chintaguntla Kumari, 50, was killed when a wall near a poultry farm collapsed during the storm.

The impact was severe in Dornala, where heavy rain and gale-force winds uprooted trees and brought down electricity poles, disrupting normal life.

At Kadapa Rajupalli, a 130-year-old neem tree at the Nagula Meera Dargah, a local landmark, was uprooted in the storm. Along the Srisailam Road, several roadside shops were damaged after roofing sheets were blown away by strong winds.
