Student dies by suicide at college campus

Kurnool: A 17-year-old student from Bathalapalli mandal died by suicide in Somuladoddi, Anantapur district, on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the student, who was studying in the intermediate first year at a private junior college, took the extreme step on the college premises while his classmates were attending lessons.

His fellow students, who witnessed the incident, were shocked and saddened. The police registered a case based on a complaint from the student's parents, who allege that their son’s suicide was due to negligence by the college management and staff.

Following the incident, student organisations, including AISF, PDSU, SFI, SC, ST, and BC student associations, along with Jai Bheem leaders, protested, demanding the suspension of the regional inspection officer accused of supporting illegal activities in private colleges.

AISF district general secretary Kullayiswamy further demanded that the institution be seized, holding the management responsible for the tragic incident. Later, members of student organisations submitted a representation to Rural DSP Venkateswarlu, demanding immediate action against the college management. They also called for criminal cases to be filed against the college for its alleged role in the student's death.

Student union leader Veerendra pointed to potential pressure from the college management regarding fee payments as a possible cause. Meanwhile, a CCTV video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
