Students Must Not Bring Outside Food Into Hostels, Orders Minister
Vijayawada: BC welfare minister S. Savita on Monday ordered officials and hostel staff across the state not to allow outside food into BC hostels and Gurukula schools.
The minister's orders came following 13 girl students of Ramapuram BC Gurukula School in Satya Sai district falling ill on Monday. Hostel authorities shifted them to the Ramapuram Primary Health Centre. Doctors treated the girls and discharged them Tuesday morning after their condition improved.
On learning about the incident, Minister Savita spoke with both the students and medical staff. Doctors informed her that the students had fallen ill after consuming contaminated food. When the minister made inquiries with students, they informed that some of them had food purchased from outside the hostel.
Expressing anger about students having food from outside, Savita issued instructions that no outside food should be allowed into the hostels. Further, she ordered that students should not be permitted to leave the hostel under any circumstances.
Gurukula staff said the girl students who had become ill are currently resting in the hostel.
The minister emphasised that even after discharge from the hospital, students should remain under medical supervision within the hostel until they recover fully. Further, she inquired about the health status of the remaining students in the Gurukula.
