Suspect held in Kancharapalem RTC bus acid attack

Visakhapatnam:The Kancharapalem police have arrested a man in connection with an acid attack on an RTC bus near Urvashi Junction in November last year. The case details were revealed at a press conference held on Monday.

The attack occurred on November 29, 2024, at about 8:30 pm, when an unidentified assailant threw acid at a bus travelling from Visakhapatnam RTC Complex to Pendurthi, injuring three women passengers, one of whom suffered several burns.

Following the incident, an FIR was filed based on the victim’s account, and 21 special teams were formed for investigation. Police identified a suspect who was seen moving suspiciously at the crime scene, who later confessed to the crime. During his arrest, police recovered two bottles containing hazardous substances, a 500-ml bottle of “Active Cleaning Acid” and another 500-ml bottle of “Terrain Brand Scented Phenyl.”

The accused revealed that he had been living as a beggar for over a year and often faced hostility from bus drivers and conductors when he could not pay his fare. Seeking revenge, he purchased acid and threw it at buses and bikes. The suspect has been remanded into custody after being presented in court.
