TD Set To Capture Hindupur Municipal Chairperson’s Post Today

Majority of the municipality’s councillors, who have joined the TD camp, have been moved to a secure place ahead of the election.

Anantapur: The ruling Telugu Desam in AP appears set to capture the post of Hindupur municipal chairman, election for which is scheduled on Monday.

Hindupur MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna is himself supervising operations to ensure that TD’s nominee becomes the chairperson of the Hindupur municipality.

When elections for the Hindupur municipality had been held, YSRC government had been in power. YSRC won 29 seats in the 38-member council. Only six nominees of the TD and one each of BJP, MIM and independent candidates won.

19th ward councillor Indraja of YSRC got elected as the municipal chairperson. But after the TD-led NDA alliance government came to power in AP, Indraja quit as the chairperson and also resigned from the YSRC. In addition, several other municipal councillors quit the YSRC and joined TD.

TDP has reportedly gained the support of a majority of the municipal council members. The ruling party had taken them all at one place. All of them will be arriving together to participate in the municipal chairperson’s election, which is scheduled on Monday.

Penukonda RDO Anand Kumar, who is the presiding officer for the election, inspected the arrangements made for the polling by Hindupur municipal commissioner Sangam Srinivasulu.

In addition to the councillors, area MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna and MP B.K. Parthasarathi too are voters in the election for the municipal chairperson’s post.

Monday will also witness election for the post of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation chairperson.
