TDP Signs MoU to Provide Rs 5 Lakh Accident Insurance to Party Workers
VIJAYAWADA: Ruling Telugu Desam in Andhra Pradesh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with United India Insurance and Pragmatic Insurance Broking Services to provide insurance to all its party activists, whose number had crossed one crore a few days ago.
The MoU has been signed between TD national general secretary Nara Lokesh, who is also a minister in the AP cabinet, and representatives of United India Insurance and Pragmatic Insurance Broking Services on Thursday.
TD has billed the MoU as historic, saying Telugu Desam is the only political party in the country that has insured as many as over one crore of its activists.
As per the memorandum of understanding, TDP has paid ₹42 crore as the first premium, which will insure party activists for the full year beginning January 1, 2025 till December 31, 2025. The party will be paying almost a similar amount next year too when renewing the insurance. As per the MoU, every party activist will be eligible for ₹5 lakh accident insurance.
Party activists say Lokesh has been taking revolutionary decisions ever since he took charge as general secretary of the party. They say TD has already spent ₹138 crore towards welfare of the party cadre.
A separate legal wing has already been set up to look after the court cases filed against TD activists during the erstwhile YSRC party’s rule.
On behalf of the NTR Trust, residential schools have been established in Hyderabad and Challapalli in Krishna district to provide free education to children of deceased party workers. Party activists of both the Telugu states have thanked Lokesh for looking after TDP workers as his own family members.
