Tensions Rise in Nellore After Murder of Transgender Leader Hasini
Nellore: Tense situation prevailed in Nellore after the murder of Hasini, a prominent transgender leader, late Tuesday night. The incident occurred in Tapathopu, Kodavalur mandal, where unidentified assailants hacked her to death.
According to reports, Hasini, who was in her late 30s, had visited a temple in Parlapalli for darshan and was returning home when the attack occurred. The unidentified assailants ambushed her mid-journey, launching an assault with knives before fleeing the scene. Gravely injured, Hasini succumbed to her wounds on the spot. “Hasini had performed rituals at the temple and was returning home when she was attacked by individuals who had reportedly followed her,” said sub-inspector Koti Reddy.
Hasini’s body was subsequently brought to the Government General Hospital mortuary, triggering widespread protests and demands for justice. Hundreds of transgender individuals, including those from Nellore, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Tamil Nadu, converged at the hospital, staging a protest. They demanded immediate action against those responsible for the crime. In response, police erected barricades and deployed additional force to maintain order and prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder stemmed from a feud between rival factions within the transgender community. “Preliminary information indicates that the assault was premeditated, suggesting planning by the assailants. Internal conflicts within the transgender community may have been the motive behind the crime,” the sub-inspector said.
Police have identified potential suspects and have launched a probe into the case.
