Three Arrested on Charges of Duping Man of Rs 21.59 Lakh

Vijayawada: Seven persons have been booked, and three arrested on charges of duping a man by collecting Rs 21.59 lakh with a promise to secure a medical seat for his son in the Philippines, in Guntur.

Guntur South DSP Mallikarjuna Rao informed the media in Guntur on Wednesday that Seelamneni Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Gurazala village in Palnadu district, wanted his son Anil Kumar to study the MBBS course. He contacted a consulting agency in Guntur named ‘Right Choice JS Professional Education Services,’ headed by its founder and director, Kanna Raviteja. The agency assured to handle all the requirements, including the student visa, college admission, and hostel arrangements, and collected Rs 21.59 lakh from him.

However, the agency failed to transfer any amount to the medical college and instead began threatening the student when asked to return the money.

Following a complaint by Rao, the police registered a case against seven individuals and arrested three of them: Kanna Raviteja, Kanna Bala Souraiah, and Para Ravi Kumar at Mutluru village on Wednesday. The other accused are Peramala Palli Lohitha, Murupala Geetika, Narayana Pawan Kalyan, and Polimera Siva.

The DSP advised parents and students aspiring to pursue higher studies abroad to be cautious when dealing with private consulting agencies to avoid being duped.
