VISHAKHAPATNAM: North coastal Andhra Pradesh witnessed the fury of the monsoon on Tuesday as thunderstorms lashed several regions. Kurupam (Parvathipuram Manyam) received the highest rainfall at 54.2 mm, followed by Narsipatnam (Anakapalli) at 43.2 mm.
Significant rainfall was also recorded in Jiyyamma Valasa (35.6 mm), Komarada (34 mm) and Obuladevaracheruvu (Sri Sathya Sai district) at 16.2 mm within the last 24 hours.

The forecast indicates isolated heavy downpours across north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places within these regions.
Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are also predicted over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh has received a significant surplus of rainfall this monsoon season. As of June 25, the state boasts an impressive 88 per cent surplus rainfall for the month, contributing to the overall 16 per cent surplus across the southern peninsula.
While the monsoon initially arrived in Andhra Pradesh on June 2, two days ahead of schedule, it remained sluggish for the first two weeks. However, the IMD's forecast of surplus rains throughout the monsoon period brings much-needed hope to the state's farmers.
