Anantapur: In a significant development for passengers in Anantapur district, the Railway Department has approved the extension of the Tirumala Express service up to Guntakal.

The Tirumala Express (Train Nos. 18521/18522), which currently operates between Kadapa and Visakhapatnam, will now run between Guntakal and Visakhapatnam as per its regular schedule. Railway sources said the train will depart daily from Guntakal railway station at 1.30 pm.

Anantapur MP Ambica Lakshminarayana had repeatedly taken up the issue with the Railway Ministry and concerned officials, highlighting the travel needs of people in the district. Responding to his representations, railway authorities agreed to extend the service up to Guntakal, the divisional headquarters.

The extended service will be formally inaugurated on May 12 at Guntakal railway station, where the MP will flag off the train, officials said.

The extension is expected to improve connectivity between Anantapur and Visakhapatnam, as well as other north Andhra regions. The service is also expected to benefit students, employees, businesspersons and pilgrims travelling to Tirumala.

Lakshminarayana expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna and minister Nara Lokesh for their support in facilitating the development.
