Tirumala traders asked to sell goods at prices decided by TTD

Anantapur: Authorities of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams have directed traders to sell products like water bottles and other items to pilgrims at Tirumala only at prices prescribed by the TTD.

The development came after TTD executive officer J. Syamala Rao and TTD JEO Veerabrahmam directed a team of Estate wing officials to inquire into complaints of malpractices by a few traders on Saturday.
The team members purchased a glass water bottle from Shop No. 3 for ₹50. On returning the empty bottle, the shopkeeper gave them back only ₹20, instead of ₹30, indicating that goods are being sold at higher prices to devotees of Lord Venkateswara.
The team further noticed that the trader sold lower quality mineral water bottles against norms. He also did not display any price list of the items he sold. It is stated the same person had been warned earlier for similar acts and fined ₹25,000.
TTD officials warned him that if he is caught again, TTD will seize his shop and impound his earnest money deposit and security deposit.
TTD has warned that in case traders cheat devotees, their licences will be cancelled.
