Tirupati police seize ganja worth Rs25.5 lakh
Tirupati: Tirupati district police arrested six individuals and seized 100 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 25.5 lakh in two separate operations conducted on Wednesday.
In the first operation, Tada police acted on a tip-off and intercepted a car near Sri City Zero Point early in the morning. The team, led by CI Murali Krishna and SI Kondappa Naidu, arrested two suspects, K. Shahrukh Khan, 24, and G. Arul, 24, both from Gummadipudi. They were attempting to transport 28 kilograms of ganja to Chennai. The seized contraband and vehicle were valued at Rs 9.5 lakh.
In the second operation, Chillakur police apprehended four suspects at Kota Cross Road, Kadivedu village, recovering 72 kilograms of ganja and two vehicles worth Rs 16 lakh. The arrested individuals were P. Giri Babu, 41, from Puttur, Mohan Madan Kumar, 30, from Tiruvallur, P. Ajay, 24, and M. Kirubakaran, 18, both from Gummadipudi. During questioning, the suspects admitted to procuring the ganja from Tuni in Kakinada district, planning to sell it in Tamil Nadu for profit.
Sharing the details of the actions carried out by teams from the Tada and Chillakur police stations, SP L. Subba Rayudu revealed that Shahrukh Khan had a criminal history, including involvement in murder and NDPS cases. He reiterated the department’s commitment to combating drug smuggling and appealed to the public to report illegal activities through the police helpline.
